Die gemeinsame Arbeit Verstilling der Performance-Künstlerin Nathalie Fari und dem Multiinstrumentalisten Bernhard Reiss wirft einen kritischen Blick auf die heutige Informations- und Sinnesüberflutung. Der Mensch wird mehr und mehr aus seinen Grenzen getrieben, ohne dabei einen gewissen Schutzraum zu geniessen. Verstilling #2 schafft einen solchen temporären Zufluchtsort, wo jeder seine Zeit Revue passieren lassen kann.

Niemand bekommt so richtig mit, dass die Performance begonnen hat, weil sie im Hinterhof stattfindet, den man (das ist Teil der Performance-Taktik) nicht betreten darf. Man wundert sich, dass die Performance pünktlich genau begonnen hat, als hingen Fernsehübertragungsrechte davon ab.

Vom Galeriefenster aus sieht man Nathalie Fari, wie sie zu meditativen Bassklängen eines fast bewegungslosen Bassisten ihren Kopf in eine Betonmischmaschine steckt und einen Handstand übt. Da drin, denkt man sich, hört sie bestimmt nichts.

Deutschland könnte Weltmeister werden, denkt man sich, und Nathalie Fari würde mit derselben unerschüttlichen Ernsthaftigkeit Steine in den Betonmischer werfen. Genau das tut sie dann auch drei Mal.

The collaborative work Verstilling by the performance artist Nathalie Fari and the multi-instrumentalist Bernhard Reiss takes a critical look at today‘s informational and sensual overflow. People are increasingly being driven beyond their limits without being offered any shelter. Verstilling #2 creates such a temporary „place of refuge“ where each person can look back over time.

No-one really knows that the performance has started because it takes place in a back yard that you are not allowed to enter (part of the performance tactics). You are surprised that the performance has started bang on time, as if TV broadcasting rights depended on it.

You see Nathalie Fari through the windows of the gallery as she puts her head into a cement mixer and performs a handstand, accompanied by meditative sounds from a bass guitar played by an almost motionless bassist. You think that she can’t hear anything in there.

Germany could win the World Cup, you imagine, and Nathalie Fari would throw stones into the cement mixer with the same unshakable seriousness. And that is what she does three times.
