Schneckenartig (und auch genau in diesem Tempo) spinnt sich da ein Körper ein in eine heimathafte Hülle, eine Folie, silbergrau, die sich fast zum Zylinder formen lässt, zu einer Art Schneckenhaus. Immer wieder hinaus und hinein zwängt und zwingt sich das Menschentier; und wer weiß schon, wo und was das schließlich ist: Zuhause. Der Pappkarton übrigens, oft das einzige Stück „Zuhause“ in einer Favela an der Peripherie von São Paulo, ist in Faris Schneckenhaus zumindest zu ahnen.

Ohne die Sprache zu verwenden oder jegliche technische Mittel wie Audio und Video, entwickelt Nathalie Fari eine konzentrierte Aktion in und unter einem rundförmigen Objekt. Dieses aus Papier gestaltete Objekt, entworfen von der Bühnenbildnerin Michaela Muchina, besteht aus mehreren Ebenen, Schichten und Flügeln. Jeder Flügel, den die Künstlerin langsam öffnet und im Raum platziert, dient als Metapher für eine neue Welt und neue Wege, die sie betritt und erkundet. Bei dieser Entdeckungsreise wird der Zuschauer in die Stimmung des "Wanderns" versetzt. Er wird eingeladen seine eigene Position im Raum einzunehmen, um seine Bilder und Gedanken zu kreieren.

Snail-like (and also at a snail’s pace), a body twists itself a roof over its head – silver-grey foil that can be made almost cylindrical, into a type of snail shell. The human animal forces and squeezes its way inside and out of the shell; and who knows where and what “home” is? We can at least imagine that Fari’s snail shell is indicative of the cardboard box that is often “home” to many in favelas on the outskirts of São Paulo.

Without using language or any technological means such as audio and video, Nathalie Fari develops a concentrated action in and around a round object. This paper object, made by the stage designer Michaela Muchina, has several levels, layers and flaps. Each flap that the artist opens slowly and positions in the space is a symbol for a new world and new paths that she treads and explores. The onlooker takes on the mood of a “wanderer”. He or she is invited to take up his or her own position in the space, and to create his or her own images and thoughts.
